Step
3: Nourishing Correctly From the Inside Out

Vegans
| Raw Dairy | Eggs
| Greens | Summary
our
health begins with what you put in your mouth, plain and simple. Food
quality is of utmost importance and you need to take it seriously. Supplements
will not fully compensate for not eating properly. The
foods you choose to eat are also your supplements and will help build
and repair your teeth daily.
Dr. Judd
mentions milk, cheese and eggs as good food supplements for calcium. Some
of you may be shivering in horror right now, especially those that are
vegan. But I don’t blame you because there is so much milk propaganda
out there, coming from both the "milk moustache" pushing dairy
industry and those pushing the vegan lifestyle. I admit I have come full
circle when it comes to dairy. I told people years ago to avoid it because
I believed ALL dairy was bad. I listened to all the health "gurus"
who said dairy was very harmful to the body, caused mucus and numerous
other problems and diseases in the body. I wouldn’t even let my
kids drink it! But after reading countless stories of vegans and their
children who had crumbling teeth due to their nutrient deficiencies, I
changed my tune.
My good friend
and on-line colleague Chet Day (www.ChetDay.com)
has had many vegan health enthusiasts contact him over the years telling
him of their crumbling, brittle, and cracked teeth. When I asked him about
this he said, "Regarding vegan diet and bad teeth, I would guesstimate
that I’ve heard from at least a hundred people over the years, all
of whom had varying problems with their teeth. The worst reports came
from those who tried to be fruitarians, with strict vegans next in line,
especially those who also drank distilled water."
Greg Westbrook,
author of "When Hallelujah Becomes "What happened"?",
writes, "For most of my adult life, my teeth have been hard and
fairly resistant to decay. But there were two times in my life when my
teeth got soft and riddled with decay. This happened in 1986 after six
years on a meatless diet, and again in 1998 after three years on an all
raw diet. In both cases, I went to the dentist to discover that I had
over ten cavities in my mouth."
Fortunately,
Greg was able to strengthen his teeth again by incorporating goat’s
milk and a few eggs into his diet. I did plenty of research on the dairy
issue, (with an open mind I might add!), and I found the problem wasn’t
milk, but all the processing milk goes through was the real problem. The
type of milk and cheese you eat makes all the difference in the world.
Raw and organic REAL milk and cheese contains live enzymes and many other
unaltered nutrients. Once dairy is pasteurized and/or homogenized, it
becomes damaged and is a junk food like many other highly processed foods.
Back in the
20’s, Americans could buy fresh raw whole milk, buttermilk, naturally
yellow butter, fresh farm cheeses and cream in various colors and thicknesses.
But this type of dairy is no longer available, unfortunately.
Today’s
junky milk is accused of causing everything from allergies to heart disease
to cancer, but when Americans could buy REAL MILK, these diseases were
rare. What has ruined our dairy (and health!) is all the pasteurization
and homogenization that milk is put through. All that processing turns
milk into junk food. Homogenization is a process that breaks down butterfat
globules so they do not rise to the top. Homogenized milk has been linked
to heart disease so avoid it! Pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes
vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamins B12
and B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated
with allergies, increases tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems
in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer. Calves
fed pasteurized milk die before maturity.
If you are
going to drink milk, drink only REAL "full fat" milk with
the cream on the top (see "Recommendations" for sources of
real milk). Low-fat and non-fat milk is a junk food. There is no such
thing as a low-fat or non-fat cow.
What
about organic milk?
Organic milk
you find readily available is junk too, I am sorry to report. Ultra-pasteurization
is a barbaric treatment done to milk.
Organic milk
may not have all the pesticides, hormones or other unwanted chemicals,
but it is highly processed, even more than regular pasteurized milk. Ultra-pasteurization
or "Ultra Heat Treated milk" is milk that has been "ultra"
heat treated and after that process it can remain on a shelf "not
refrigerated and unopened for around six months" (yuck). During
this process the milk is heated to at least 272 degrees F. In regular
pasteurization, milk is heated to 161 degrees.
If you are
going to drink milk, drink only RAW milk and encourage the farmer who
sells it to you to feed the cows GRASS, (not grains) so the milk will
be more nutritious. A cow’s natural diet is out in the green pasture,
not in the cornfield.
Eat only
RAW cheeses, yogurt or kefir!
Naturally
fermented raw milk cheeses from whole milk given by grass-fed cows are
still made in France, England, Switzerland and Greece. Look for the word
"milk" or "fresh milk" or "cultured milk"
rather than "pasteurized milk" on the label, which means they
are made from raw milk. I have yet to find a yogurt or kefir in the store
that does not contain pasteurized milk. Make your own if you have access
to real milk. Type in "Dom’s kefir" in any search engine
and you will be able to access the best site on the net that shows how
to make kefir.
Raw and organic
cheeses are becoming more and more available as people become aware of
the importance and request it from retailers. See "Recommendations"
at the end of this book for sources of raw and organic cheese. Are you
still afraid of eggs? Don’t believe the "cholesterol"
myths and the junk science that says eggs are no good. Eggs are an excellent
source of carotenoids, choline, lecithin, magnesium and other vital nutrients.
The truth is, cholesterol in whole foods (eggs, meat) has still not been
proved significantly responsible for contributing to the cholesterol build-up
that damages arteries.
Warning:
DO NOT eat "egg whites" without the yolk! If you eat the cooked egg white
without the counter-balancing effect of the yolk, it is "NUTRITION FREE",
according to Dr. William Campbell Douglas, M.D. You need the yolk to help
absorb the nutrients in the egg white. You can, however, eat egg yolks
alone as they are loaded with nutrients. Do cook the EGG WHITE lightly.
Cook the eggs sunny side up so the white part is cooked but the yolk is
not. I have read eating too many raw egg whites over time can lead to
a biotin deficiency, so cook the white part of the egg. But do eat the
yolk as raw as possible because uncooked, it is the most nutritious and
the cholesterol in the yolk will not be oxidized. Once cooked, the cholesterol
in the egg yolk oxidizes. Your cells only have receptors for oxidized
cholesterol, so don’t give them anything to grab.
Do eat whole
organic eggs! They are an inexpensive whole food packed with nutrition.
I have seen organic eggs for as high as $3.99 a dozen and even at that
price, the eggs are only .33 apiece. Spend a little extra and get the
organic eggs and get the freshest possible. Your body and teeth will thank
you for it. If you happen to have access to eggs right out of the hen
house, all the better. Warm from the nest, the eggs are at their most
nutritious best!
Egg allergy?
If you have an allergy to eggs, most of the time it is caused by the heated
protein of the egg white. Dr. W. C. Douglas has said if you eat the eggs
raw, mixed in other foods, the allergy won’t be triggered. It is
easy to slip a raw egg into a smoothie, so try that if you have not been
able to eat eggs in the past. But again, don’t eat too many raw
egg whites to avoid a biotin deficiency. You might do better just eating
the raw egg yolk.
Concerned
about salmonella? According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, D.O., "Salmonella
infections are usually present only in traditionally raised commercial
hens." And Dr. W. C. Douglas has stated, "You are about as
likely to win the lottery as you are to get sick from an egg." The
bottom line is, if you eat farm fresh, organic eggs, salmonella is not
a problem.
Dr. Judd
does not mention the importance of eating meat in his book, but my research
shows how vital it is for healthy teeth and gums. A study in the UK indicates
that antioxidants (and specifically glutathione) may prove to be an important
defense against periodontal disease. The best way to raise glutathione
levels is not by taking glutathione supplements (the molecules are too
big to pass through he intestinal walls to the bloodstream). However,
if you are looking to take a supplement, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) does give
a powerful boost to your body’s natural production of glutathione.
In the book, "Toxic Relief " by Dr. Don Colbert, M.D., he
does warn however that "too much NAC may act as a pro-oxidant and
increase free radical activity in healthy patients". So as always,
I suggest raising glutathione levels naturally in your body by eating
WHOLE FOODS, in particular clean meats and fresh fruits and vegetables.
I highly suggest eating only GRASS-FED beef when eating meat. Not only
is it very lean and additive free, but it also contains important omega-3
and also CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) which through international scientific
research has shown positive results in combating cancer and arteriosclerosis
(clogged arteries), reducing body fat, and preventing or delaying the
onset of diabetes.
When
shopping for root crops or other green vegetables, again, choose organic
whenever possible. Organic foods are higher in nutrients, so you get more
for your money. If you buy produce that is in season and on sale, the
price is not that much more than regular produce which is contaminated
with pesticides. If you do some comparison shopping, you may find organic
is even cheaper than some regular produce at times. I find this to be
true quite often, so I always make sure to compare prices.
Nourishing
from the inside out is choosing the best quality food available. It means
eating many of your foods in their natural state, uncooked and unprocessed.
Of course it is not reality to expect a person to eat an entirely raw
diet and not all food should be eaten raw, but please consider what you
are putting into your body and make a choice for your teeth! The best
foods you can give your body are nutrient- dense and enzyme rich foods.
We need enzymes for every function in the body and we know that fluoride
is a destroyer of enzymes. So is cooking food. Do your best to eat as
many live foods as possible. It is important for your immunity and your
longevity and will help every process of your body.
The last
advice in the area of food is avoiding processed carbohydrates, better
known as SUGAR. Dr. Judd has proven that sugar does not react with enamel
like acid does, but it will deplete the body of nutrients, so avoid it.
When you are depleting nutrients, your teeth and gums suffer. If you do
happen to eat hard candy that sticks to your teeth, brush it off right
away.
One more
reason to avoid sugar-it makes you old quick and messes up your hormones.
It puts stress on the adrenal glands and when the adrenals are tired,
you will LOOK and feel tired too! Just say no to SUGAR. If you have a
craving for something sweet, have a piece of fruit and rinse your mouth
afterwards!
So the last
and 3rd step is this Eat the QUALITY foods that are nutritious and enzyme
rich to help your body make what it needs to keep your teeth flexible
and strong. Taking supplements is not enough–you need to eat the
quality foods as well for strong and flexible teeth. Do not be afraid
of eating eggs or REAL raw dairy. These are important foods that God put
on this Earth for us to eat so that we can keep our teeth for a lifetime.
And lastly, avoid the foods that rob nutrients from your body because
your TEETH pay for it.
-- SUMMING
IT UP --
Step One:
Brush only with pure, natural soap and water to ready the teeth for re-enamelization,
and rinse your mouth with water while eating to neutralize acids that
react with the enamel.
Step Two:
Build your teeth daily by taking calcium with vitamin D (and magnesium),
monosodium phosphate, vitamin C and a good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement.
Step Three:
Eat only WHOLE foods unprocessed and in their natural form to nourish
your teeth every day!
Helpful
Tips (Some of these have been mentioned already, but they need to be repeated!)
DO immediately
STOP using regular toothpaste! Fluoride toothpastes make the enamel brittle
and chalky and it severs the gums from the teeth resulting in gum pockets
and gingivitis infection. And the "natural toothpastes" are
full of glycerin that coat the teeth and prevent reenamelization. All
toothpastes contain abrasives that wear away your gums. A study showed
that brushing too hard with toothpaste can cause permanent damage to the
gums, so throw the abrasive toothpaste in the trash and brush gently with
soap.
DO your best
to get all bits of food out from in between your teeth! Dr. Judd is not
a fan of flossing and told me it is a waste of time, but my personal opinion
is that if flossing helps to get the food particles out from in between
your teeth, then do it. Some teeth are so close together that floss is
the only thing that can get the food particles out. Do be careful though,
because flossing can damage the gums if it is not done gently. Dr. Judd
does say to make sure and pick out bits of food from your teeth with a
sharp toothpick after eating and brush gently with soap if you can. You
don’t want food particles trapped in your teeth! Remember that brushing
with soap prevents and eventually gets rid of plaque and also kills germs
that can cause gum infections. You may have heard of using "twig
therapy" to remove the food particles. Miswak twigs have been used
for centuries to clean the teeth.
The twigs
clean plaque and users of the Miswak twigs claim it is a powerful natural
stain remover leaving whiter and brighter teeth. BUT!!!!!!!, these twigs
contain high amounts of fluoride, so I do not recommend them. Use a regular
sharp wooden toothpick instead.
DON’T
chew ice or other hard foods. Teeth do have a breaking point. Chewing
on ice DOES NOT make your teeth stronger!
DON’T
dig off plaque with a sharp probe or let a dentist do this. It makes cavities
through the enamel.
DON’T
have root canals. It ruins the tooth, making it brittle and cracking it
usually. Dr. Judd says that sometimes the drill breaks and must be left
in the tooth! Visit www.hugnet.com for more on root canals.
DON’T
allow mercury fillings to be put into your mouth. Dr. Judd states, "Methyl
mercury formed by the body gives Parkinson, halting speech, autism, hearing
loss and other ailments. It is no laughing matter and small amounts are
fatal." If you do have mercury fillings, have a qualified professional
remove them correctly, and have them replaced with ceramic or gold. Some
interesting trivia regarding the word quack... "Its original meaning,
from Europe, comes from the term ‘quacksalver’ which was used
to describe Dentists who were dumb enough to use mercury (a poison) as
fillings for teeth." Source–Quackpotwatch.com
DO rinse
your teeth with water or liquid while eating and keep your teeth moist
to prevent them from cracking. That means your body needs to be fully
hydrated at all times so you will not have a dry mouth. Eating nuts stimulates
saliva, so keep a bag handy and eat a few when you are hungry for a snack.
DO your best
to quit smoking because it depletes calcium.
DO your best
to exercise with light weights because it helps with calcium absorption.
DO eat red
peppers–they have lots of vitamin C for healthy gums and DO eat
beans–they have folate for healthy gums.
DO eat raw
organic cheese with organic fresh fruit (this is a quick and easy satisfying
meal or snack for everyone!). The cheese will neutralize acid and also
contains calcium useable by the body. The fruit contains important vitamins
and minerals your teeth and bones need every day. Also, aged cheeses are
better at eliminating acid production. Researchers at the University of
Iowa’s Dow Institute for Dental Research say they don’t know
why aged cheeses worked better than young cheeses but I most certainly
know the reason why. When researching cheeses on my own I noticed that
almost all the "aged" cheeses were made with cultured or fresh
milk that has not been ruined by heat. All the young and soft cheeses
are made with pasteurized and "dead" milk.
Raw cheese
is the only way to go and if you check the dairy case in the store that
has the imported cheeses, you will find them easily.
DO eat apples
and other crunchy raw foods. "The mildly acidic nature and astringent
quality of apples, combined with their rough, fiber-rich flesh, makes
them the ideal food for cleansing and brightening teeth," explains
Jeff Golub-Evans, DDS, a cosmetic dentist at New York University. Other
crunchy foods such as celery, and carrots, are like little toothbrushes
when you chew them, and they actually help scrub away stubborn stains
over time. If you are a coffee or tea drinker, you will notice their cleansing
effect on your teeth more than a person who doesn’t ingest drinks
that stain the teeth.
DO get your
vitamin D! – Renegade dentist Dr. Ted Spence says, "My anti-caries
program is simple – no fluoride, no sugar, but lots of butter, cod
liver oil, dairy, and vitamin D rich foods. It works wonders."
DO tell your
friends and family to stop using toothpaste and anything with fluoride.
Also tell them that reputable dental literature states:
Americans
age 43 average 32 cavities, those age 17 average 13 cavities.
42% of Americans
over 65 have NO natural teeth while 25% of those over 43 have NONE. (This
is a crying shame! This means that 1/4 of the people in my age group have
NONE of their own teeth!!!!!)
30% of American
youths ages 8-10 have no cavities.
100% of Ugandan
youths ages 6-10 have no cavities due to a diet high in phosphate and
the fact that they don’t eat the junk American youths do.
And…
"The health of American teeth will increase to be very nearly perfect
if the regimen of water rinsing, soap brushing and taking calcium, phosphate
and vitamin C in the diet is implemented."–Dr. Gerard F. Judd,
Ph.D.

10 REASONS
WHY YOU NEED TO STOP USING TOOTHPASTE AND USE Perfect Prescription Tooth
Soap® INSTEAD!
1. Toothpaste
contains fluoride–TO AVOID FLUORIDE IS TO PREVENT MORE THAN 114
AILMENTS...These 114 MEDICAL SIDE EFFECTS extend all the way from cancer
down to headaches CAUSED BY 1 PPM FLUORIDE IN THE WATER. Thirteen of these
side effects are proved by a double blind study on 60 patients by 12 physicians,
1 pharmacist and 1 attorney.
FLUORIDE
IS A SEVERE BIOLOGICAL POISON. Being intensely negative, it unlatches
positive hydrogen bonds in enzymes and proteins. Toothpaste has a WARNING
LABEL because of lawsuits in which children were poisoned by fluoride-containing
toothpaste. Keith Cantor, a little boy who lived in McMinnville, Oregon
died in the dentist’s chair from ingesting a 1/2 teaspoon of fluoride.
Three kidney dialysis patients were killed in 1998 at the University of
Chicago Medical School when nurses used unpurified Chicago tap water for
dialysis.
2. Toothpaste
contains contaminating materials like GLYCERIN which coats the teeth and
prevents reenamelization from nutrients in the diet. Check your toothpaste
tube now! You will see that GLYCERIN is a main ingredient, even if it
is an "all natural" type that is SUPPOSED to be good for your
teeth! GLYCERIN takes over 20 rinses to be removed and leaves your teeth
coated!
YUCK. Skeptical?
Try this simple test. Start with a clean sink and smear some of your toothpaste
on the sink. Rinse it off and watch how the water beads up because of
the STICKY GLYCERIN. You will have to keep rinsing and rinsing to remove
it! Your teeth are similar to the porcelain sink and your teeth are being
coated every time you use toothpaste. Coated teeth cannot reenamelize
from nutrients in the diet!
3. Toothpaste
contains silica (sand) which damages gums and tooth enamel.
4. Toothpaste
with fluoride severs the gums from the teeth, forming gum pockets.
5. Toothpaste
does not prevent cavities! Fluoride CAUSES cavities and there are studies
to back up this claim.
THE GOOD
NEWS...
6. Receding
gums and plaque are ended when soap is used for brushing and vitamin C
is taken daily (see STEP TWO in "The Perfect Prescription For Your
Teeth" for more info).
7. Teeth
which are cleaned with Tooth Soap® are far cleaner than those cleaned
with toothpaste which includes sugar, acid, chalk, silicates (sand), fluoride,
dyes, stabilizers, mixing agents and other contaminating materials. These
badly contaminate the teeth and prevent good enamelization.
8. Soap
is an excellent detergent, mixing insoluble oils on the tongue, inner
cheek and teeth with the water and rinsing it away. Soap rinses off oils
and doesn’t coat the enamel to block calcium and phosphate entry.
9. Soap
is non-toxic.
10. Perfect
Prescription Tooth Soap® tastes good and is 100% kid and mom approved!
